Brycheiniog Gwlad y Gwlan Poster

£35.00

Hand-pressed in the studio from an early 19th-century woodblock featuring the original Coat of Arms of Brecknockshire. Representing one of the thirteen ancient counties of Wales, the Brycheiniog Arms features the family emblems of a great warrior of Wales, Brychan, who led surges to regain the valley of Usk after the retreat of the Romans in medieval times.

The arms feature bats - or ‘reremouse’ as they would have been known in medieval Wales and swords. The bats are an ode to Brychan’s mother, Marchel, and the swords, his father, Prince Anlach.

‘Gwlad Y Gwlan” translates as “Land of Wool”. This piece beautifully captures the historic county of Brecknockshire and it’s rich history.

A note on delivery - please only select “free delivery” at checkout if you’d like to collect your poster from my studio in Brecon. To have your artwork posted to you, please select “standard delivery”.
