Laura Dennis
Welcome to my world of art! I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Brecon, with a passion for painting, drawing, and printmaking. My artistic journey has led me to explore the unique intersection of mediums, with a focus on watercolour and oil painting on clay panels—a process I have meticulously developed over four years. This innovative surface behaves like watercolour paper while also supporting oil paint, allowing for soft bleeds and the delicate capture of light shifts. My work aims to evoke the atmospheric beauty of the Welsh landscape, capturing the feeling of being enveloped in its ever-changing light and weather.
My paintings are semi-abstract and expressionistic, reflecting the fleeting memories of landscapes that resonate deeply within me. I strive to convey the emotions tied to these experiences, inviting viewers to connect with the essence of a moment spent in nature. Through muted colours and moody compositions, I hope to transport you to a place that feels familiar, offering a glimpse into the profound beauty of the world around us.
In contrast, my printmaking practice bursts with vibrancy and boldness. Inspired by the flora and fauna surrounding me, I create lino-carved prints that celebrate the uniqueness of each piece. Hand-printed with care, these works reflect the subtle variations that come from the handmade process, capturing the essence of nature in every mark.
I have had the privilege of exhibiting my work across the UK, including venues such as the Oxfordshire Arts Week and The Other Art Fair in London (2023). This year, I am honoured to teach alongside a new Turner Exhibition at Petworth House, in collaboration with West Dean College of Art and the National Trust. As an elected member of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales, I continue to engage with the art community by teaching creative workshops and classes from my studio in Brecon, which I established in 2022 as both a working artist studio and gallery.
Thank you for visiting my site. I hope my work resonates with you and inspires you to reflect on your own experiences in the beautiful landscapes that surround us.
